Works is an ensemble workshop for musicians looking to gain more experience playing
in a band. Classes focus on various aspects of playing rock, blues, pop, reggae,
and funk, and emphasize listening skills, arrangements, dynamics, groove, soloing,
and building confidence (and having fun!). Classes are available for ages 12 -
adult and meet in the evenings for two hours each week at a studio near Jack London
Square. Openings are often available for all instrumentalists and vocalists. Each
session lasts for nine weeks, and culminates in a public performance at Ashkenaz
Music and Dance Club in Berkeley at the final week. For the last eight years, Jeremy Steinkoler (drums, guitar, bass, vocals, trumpet) and Steve Gibson (guitar, bass, piano, mandolin, saxophone) have been teaching rock and blues band workshops together in the East Bay and at Cazadero Performing Arts Camp. With many years of experience as professional players and teachers, they offer a supportive, constructive and fun environment for musicians to develop their skills both individually and as an ensemble. Band Works is also in the process of expanding its classes to offer more opportunities to musicians in the Bay Area. Please check our website to see our current list of classes and performance dates. In July 2002 BandWorks was fortunate to teach a workshop at the Ark Children's Cultural Center in Dublin, Ireland, with the support of the "Edge," guitarist from the world-famous band U2. The program was a great success, and we are planning on returning to Ireland to host another workshop in the summer of 2004. Please check out our website for more info: www.bandworks.com |
